On entering Em and Anne’s beautiful home in Abbotsford, I wondered how on god’s green were we gonna fit 40 people in here… Then I saw the amazing spread of food Em had prepared and was distracted by the best home made babaganoosh I’ve ever put in my mouth.
The crowd spread themselves throughout the house; loungeroom, kitchen and back courtyard, to create somewhat of a residential amphitheatre for the gents of Big Smoke.
Big Smoke are undeniably one of the best bands kicking around the traps of the Melbourne music scene. The lyrics, the harmonies, the on-stage banter, they’ve got it all and they’ve got it in spades. They stripped down their usual folk-country-rock setup, to a much more ‘uncooked rice in a bottle’ type vibe. And they even do that brilliantly.
Great music, great food, great hosts and great company.
I’ve been to a lot of Parlour Gigs in my time and I’ve gotta say, this was one of the best.
